We are a nonprofit, 501c3, called Hearts, Hands and Hope Foundation.  We support women and children who are battling breast and childhood cancer so that their battle may be a little easier.  We were founded in 2018 by Trenda & Paul Snetzinger after Trenda, and her mom, were both diagnosed within a week of one another in 2016.  During our treatments, we found ourselves feeling frustrated, angry, confused, and everything in between.  It was then that we decided that if anything positive came from our cancer diagnosis, it was that we wanted to help and support others in the same position and let them know that, at no time, will they ever be alone.

Diego Alvarado was a student of Trenda’s at Bennett Middle School years ago.  A strong bond quickly developed and Diego and his family. Family who was there for one another – no matter what.  Right after Trenda and Dodie were diagnosed – Diego and his mom Ruth, despite the pain he felt from his own treatments, walked the entire breast cancer awareness walk with them.  Diego told Ruth that he wanted to be there for Trenda no matter what.  Diego passed away in December of 2016 and there is not a day that goes by that he is not thought of, missed and loved.  His handsome smile, his favorite song, and his brave attitude of “Don’t Stop Believing” still continues to get Trenda through her toughest days.

Hearts, Hands and Hope Foundation would like to offer one student from Bennet, Strasburg and Byers High Schools a $500 academic scholarship in Diego’s name.  It is our hopes to increase this amount with the continued support of our Foundation.  This scholarship will be given to the student chosen by both HHH, as well as, Diego’s family and will represent everything that Diego was.  The requirements for this scholarship is as follows:

  1. Must have at minimum of a 3.0 grade point average
  2. Must have a history of service to the community through volunteering – ESPECIALLY their senior year
  3. Student must have a desire to work in the medical field with the goal of helping others
  4. Active within the school through either sports or activities
  5. Student must write an essay stating what makes them a good candidate for this scholarship, what their goals are and how they plan on making a difference. Essay must be attached to application.

The deadline for application and essay submittal will be April 26th, 2024.  Please turn in both to Dodie Hunker, w/ transportation, at Bennett High School by deadline.  If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to contact us at 303-641-3927 or email us at [email protected].  Please visit our website at www.HeartsHandsandHopeFoundation.org to see more about who we are and what we do.

Thank you very much for your time and we look forward to working with Bennett High School during the 2019-2020 school year.

Sincerely,

Trenda Snetzinger
